“People shouldn’t need an app to trade. They already have Messages. Definitive Flash is the engine behind Basemate Trades in iMessage. We make it feel easy, they make it actually fill.”
— Mateo, Founder, Basemate
Basemate is money that lives in your texts - a trading agent inside the conversation.. Long COIN, short ETH, swap tokens, earn yield, discover trending launches, or ship a new token, all without leaving the conversation. The product started inside Base App, where it has already onboarded 10K+ users, powered 877+ token launches, and moved hundreds of thousands in perp volume.
Basemate’s next move takes that same agent into iMessage: “money that lives in your texts.” Send money across borders, earn, trade, and save directly from iMessages, no separate app required. A chat that can’t actually trade is just a chatbot. The team is direct about what Flash API unlocks: “with Definitive Flash we can actually make this a core piece of our business model.”
The core value is making “buy $20 of BASEMATE,” typed into a text thread, resolve into a real, settled onchain trade.
Basemate’s team was direct about where the difficulty lived: actually trading from a text. Routing, fills, and order management are the plumbing that makes “buy $20 of BASEMATE” work, and none of it is visible to the user typing the message.
Building that plumbing independently meant either stitching together a Franken-stack of DEX routers and wallet infrastructure (each a separate point of failure), or partnering with an execution layer built to be embedded. Basemate wanted smart wallets and real fills without owning a complex infra stack, plus a way to turn execution into a source of revenue rather than a cost center.
There was also a team-focus question underneath it. Every hour spent on routing, gas handling, and order management was an hour not spent on the chat, the wallet, and the product feel that make Basemate distinct in the first place.
Definitive is the leading onchain trading platform for pro-traders and institutions, built by Coinbase Prime and Tagomi alumni. The same execution engine that powers Definitive’s terminal is exposed through Flash API, and that’s the engine now sitting behind Basemate Trades in iMessage.
The user experience Basemate wanted was simple on the surface: text “buy $20 of BASEMATE,” confirm, done, with a receipt in chat and in Activity. Flash API is what makes that possible without Basemate building its own router. Definitive’s smart order router aggregates 900+ DEXs and onchain liquidity venues, simulates each trade before execution, and handles gas estimation, nonce management, MEV protection, and slippage optimization behind the scenes. Basemate’s markets are live on this flow now; limit, stop, and TWAP orders are next, and each is one parameter change away on the same integration rather than a separate build.
Basemate’s own framing of the choice was blunt: “We text. They execute. Smart wallets, real fills, no Franken-stack of DEX routers.” Flash API is non-custodial by design, including for the conditional order types Basemate is rolling out next, and it’s compatible with the smart and embedded wallets that sit behind a consumer chat experience. One integration replaces what would otherwise be a stack of separate router, wallet, and order-management systems.
Flash API lets integrators collect a fee on every trade it executes, with proceeds routed automatically to the integrator’s Definitive vault and no integration fee back to Definitive. For Basemate, that fee structure is a big part of the appeal: it turns the trading feature inside iMessage into a monetization channel, not just a utility.
Basemate’s Flash integration, plumbing, and agent context came together in under two hours. That speed matters because of where it lets Basemate’s engineering go instead: the chat interface, the wallet experience, and the product feel, not infrastructure. As the team put it, Definitive lets them focus on “the chat, the wallet, the vibe. Not infrastructure.”
Basemate Trades in iMessage is now in beta, but Basemate already has a proof of concept for agent-driven trading at scale: 10K+ users and 877+ tokens launched through its Base App agent. Flash API is what lets that same trust extend into iMessage without rebuilding the execution layer from scratch.
Flash’s impact is clear: with Definitive Flash handling routing, fills, and order management, trading becomes a core piece of Basemate’s business model rather than a feature bolted onto a messaging product. Flash also allowed Basemates to achieve incredible speed to market; a matter of hours versus months building reliable trading infrastructure in-house.
Basemate’s roadmap in iMessage is already set: limit, stop, and TWAP orders follow market orders on the same Flash API integration, with Basemate on web coming after that. None of it requires a new execution partner or rebuilding an order-management stack, because each order type is a parameter change on the same integration Basemate shipped in under two hours.
Definitive’s mission is to bring professional-grade execution to everyone, and Flash API is how that capability scales beyond Definitive’s own terminal. Wallets, fintechs, AI agents, and consumer-facing apps building trading products can plug into the same smart router, the same advanced order types, and the same multi-chain coverage that institutional desks rely on, through a single API.
Basemate is a proof point for what that looks like in a messaging surface most people already use: the chat becomes the app, and the fills underneath support the execution quality of a professional trading desk.
