“We migrated from our previous swap infra to Flash in under 3 hours. Clean API, clean docs, no surprises. Now we don’t think about routing or execution at all. We just build the product.”
— Kaiba, Founder, Amper
Amper is a DeFi chat agent built on Base. Users connect a wallet, describe what they want in natural language, and Amper executes it onchain: swaps, lending, perps, options, bridging, staking, token launches. The product serves traders and DeFi users who want to move fast without clicking through ten different protocol UIs.
The experience is deliberately simple on the surface and deep underneath. Amper is non-custodial, with keys held in Privy’s secure enclave, and runs prompts through a privacy-first inference stack with zero data retention. Beyond the chat app, Amper ships an MCP server that connects Claude, Cursor, and other AI agents to DeFi in a single command, plus Telegram integration for notifications and scheduled tasks like DCA and stop losses.
But as chat agents proliferate, quality execution becomes a differentiator. Agents routing through a single DEX means the user pays for the convenience in slippage or price impact. That’s where Definitive comes in - providing institutional-grade routing and execution, so every trade the agent proposes fills like it was placed by a professional trading desk.
Amper’s product surface is wide by design. The team has shipped 80+ tools across 18 protocols: lending on Aave, perps, options, bridging, staking, token deployment via Clanker. Swaps are one piece of that surface, but they’re a piece users touch often, and the piece where execution quality can help Amper stand out.
Amper’s original swap stack ran on Coinbase’s CDP, and execution was limited to single-chain, single-DEX paths. That meant no venue competition on price, no smart routing, and coverage capped at Base and Ethereum mainnet, limiting to Amper users who want to move across the whole of DeFi.
The alternative was building an aggregation layer in-house: multi-venue routing, multi-chain liquidity, MEV protection, quote simulation, and the ongoing maintenance burden as venues and chains change underneath. The team estimated months of engineering to build it, and a permanent tax to maintain it. Every hour spent on routing logic is an hour not spent on intent detection, the confirmation flow, or the next protocol integration.
The build-vs-buy math was clear. Definitive handles routing and execution. Amper handles the AI and the UX.
Definitive is the leading onchain trading platform for pro-traders and institutions, built by Coinbase Institutional Trading alumni. The same execution engine that professional trading desks use on Definitive’s terminal is exposed through Flash API — and that’s the engine now behind every Amper swap.
Multi-venue smart routing for measurably better fills
Flash aggregates 900+ DEXs and liquidity venues and finds the most competitive route at the moment of execution. Each trade is simulated ahead of execution to verify quote accuracy, and rerouted dynamically when liquidity conditions shift. Order intents stay offchain until fill, invisible to MEV bots, and trades execute through Definitive proxy infrastructure with slippage optimization baked in.
For Amper, the difference was immediate. Moving from single-DEX paths to multi-venue routing improved execution quality from the first session, with no routing logic written or maintained by Amper’s team.
A quote-sign-submit flow built for AI confirmation
Amper’s core UX principle is that the agent never acts without the user’s sign-off. Flash’s integration flow maps onto that perfectly.
A user says “swap 100 USDC for WETH on Base.” Amper calls Flash for a quote and renders the response as a confirmation card: amounts, venue, fees, expected output. The user confirms, the agent signs the EIP-712 order, and submits it. Once filled, the transaction card displays the venue, gas, and the Amper fee. The whole flow lives inside the chat. No modals, no redirects, no wallet popups.
The architecture stays fully non-custodial end-to-end: tokens remain in the user’s wallet until the exact moment of execution, the signed order caps exactly what can be pulled, and the pull-swap-settle happens atomically in a single transaction.
Eleven chains from one integration
Before Flash, Amper’s swap coverage was Base and Ethereum mainnet. After migrating, it was 11 chains — from the same single integration. Flash abstracts the chain layer entirely: gas estimation, nonce management, and chain-specific edge cases are handled under the hood, and as Definitive adds new chains and venues, Amper’s users inherit them automatically.
Monetization wired into every fill
The Amper fee shown on each transaction card runs through Flash’s integrator fee system. Amper sets its fee in basis points per order, Flash deducts it from trade output at execution and routes it to Amper, and every fill includes fee fields for programmatic reconciliation.
Engineering velocity routed to the agent
With execution infrastructure handled by Definitive, Amper’s engineering goes entirely into the product: agent quality, intent detection, the confirmation flow, UX, and new protocol integrations. The team isn’t debugging routing logic or maintaining DEX integrations. Swaps became a solved tool among 80+, instead of an infrastructure project competing with all of them.
Amper is building toward a future where the primary interface to DeFi is a conversation — in the app, in Telegram, or inside other AI agents through Amper’s MCP server. The roadmap keeps widening: more protocols, deeper automation, recurring strategies that run without the user watching. Every new surface routes swaps through the same Definitive rail.
Definitive’s mission is to bring professional-grade execution to DeFi, and Flash API is how that capability scales beyond Definitive’s own terminal. Flash was built with agentic workflows as a first-class use case: a stateless REST API with clean JSON and LLM-optimized docs, so wallets, apps, and AI agents can plug into the same smart router, advanced order types, and multi-chain coverage that institutional traders rely on, through a single API.
Amper is the proof point for the agent category: a team that swapped its entire execution layer in an afternoon, tripled its chain coverage and then some, and got back to building the product its users actually see.
