“Limit orders, Stop Loss, and Take Profit had been on our roadmap, but building them internally would have been a significant investment. We take execution quality extremely seriously at 0x, so when we tested Definitive Flash, the results had to earn our trust. A single engineer shipped Flash’s advanced orders, and since launch, we continue to see very strong execution for our users.”

Matcha is the decentralized trading platform built by 0x, one of DeFi’s longest-standing infrastructure teams.
Founded in 2017, 0x has spent nearly a decade building infrastructure for decentralized markets. Its contributions include creating Wrapped ETH and co-authoring the ERC-721 NFT standard.
Matcha launched in 2020 with a focus on making onchain trading simpler and more efficient. Since then, it has processed more than $62 billion in trading volume across millions of trades and become a go-to trading platform for DeFi-native users.
That experience makes Matcha an especially meaningful Flash customer: 0x knows firsthand what it takes to build and operate trading infrastructure at scale.
Limit orders, Stop Loss, and Take Profit had been on Matcha’s roadmap for some time. The value to traders was clear. The infrastructure required to make them reliable was less simple.
A market swap is executed immediately. A conditional order may remain open for hours, days, or weeks while infrastructure continuously monitors for the right execution conditions.
Supporting that reliably is complex:
Matcha estimated that building the required infrastructure internally would take at least three months of engineering, followed by an ongoing maintenance commitment.
For a team as technically capable as 0x, the question wasn't whether it could build advanced orders. It was whether doing so was the best use of its engineering resources.
Every month spent building a separate conditional execution stack was a month that couldn't be spent improving Matcha and the core 0x infrastructure used throughout DeFi.
But partnering introduced another requirement: execution quality couldn't be compromised. Matcha therefore needed infrastructure that was already proven, could operate reliably at scale, and met 0x's standards for execution.
After testing Flash, Matcha chose Definitive to power its advanced orders.
Definitive was built by Coinbase Prime and Tagomi alumni to bring professional-grade execution infrastructure onchain. Today, its execution engine powers trading for professional traders, protocol Treasuries, and financial institutions, and has processed billions in notional volume over millions of transactions onchain.
Flash API makes that same execution infrastructure available to other products through a single integration.
Matcha owns the user experience and continues powering swaps with 0x. Definitive Flash manages the infrastructure and execution behind advanced orders.
That allowed Matcha to expand its product without building an entirely new execution stack.
Matcha users now have access to:
Together, these features let traders define both entries and exits in advance. A user can establish a position, set downside protection with a Stop Loss, establish an upside target with Take Profit, and step away from the screen.
Order intents are private and held offchain. Flash continuously monitors open orders until the relevant conditions are satisfied, then executes the trade.
For 0x, adding the features wasn't enough. The resulting trades had to execute well.
Before launch, Matcha tested Flash's execution quality. Flash aggregates 900+ DEXs and liquidity sources across 15+ major EVM chains and Solana. When an order becomes executable, Flash evaluates available liquidity, selects the best route, simulates the transaction offchain, and manages submission.
Routing can adjust dynamically as liquidity and market conditions change, while MEV protection and slippage controls are incorporated into the execution process.
The results met Matcha's standards during testing, and the team has continued to see strong execution since launch.
Matcha was built around non-custodial trading from day one. Flash preserves that architecture.
A user placing a Limit, Stop Loss, or Take Profit order does not deposit assets into Definitive.
Funds remain in the user's wallet while the order is open. When execution conditions are satisfied, Flash executes the approved transaction and settles atomically onchain.
No deposits. No custodial intermediary. No separate trading vault.
That allowed Matcha to add significantly more sophisticated trading functionality without changing a fundamental part of its user experience.
The Matcha integration was driven by one engineer over a couple of weeks, with much of that time devoted to refining the user experience rather than integrating the underlying execution infrastructure.
Matcha estimates that building comparable functionality internally would have required at least three months of engineering, followed by the ongoing cost of maintaining it.
Additionally, as Flash adds support for new chain ecosystems, Matcha automatically benefits from the expanded support without any further integration work.
Matcha users can now express a more complete trading strategy without continuously monitoring markets.
They can:
For traders managing volatile onchain positions, these aren't simply convenience features. They provide greater control over execution and risk management in markets that never close.
For Matcha, advanced orders create a more complete trading experience without diverting months of engineering resources away from its core product.
Every team building trading functionality eventually faces the same decision: Build execution infrastructure internally, or partner with an infrastructure provider that has already been built, tested, and operated at scale?
The tradeoff becomes more pronounced as products move beyond basic swaps.
Advanced orders require persistent infrastructure. Multi-chain support multiplies edge cases. Liquidity aggregation requires integrations and maintenance. Reliable transaction landing requires robust price monitoring, simulation, gas management, retries, and protection against adverse execution.
0x is one of the most experienced infrastructure teams in DeFi, but it chose Flash as the optimal use of its engineering resources.
